Dexter felt it was time to meet some of his fellow swamp dwellers. He'd met a few people in the actual city, but he'd wanted to keep his whereabouts unknown until he claimed the land with a house. The nearest house, the one that had been abandoned had a new resident in it, but they were not home when Dexter walked over. He decided to head to the house across the swamp instead. He hadn't realized though when he set out, there were no accessible roadways, he had to strip down to his underwear and wade through the water to get there.
When he arrived, he found out that someone had just had a baby, and everyone was celebrating.
Dexter walked to one of the guys and introduced himself. The man was in such a good mood after the baby was born he invited Dexter inside to celebrate with them. Dexter was offered a bunny treat and chose to eat on the back porch with his host. He didn't want the family to see just how starved he was so he turned around and scarfed his food down.
Everyone then went back outside and complained that the baby wouldn't stop crying. Dexter took this opportunity to swipe a few more items he needed for his new home. Things that the family wouldn't miss, like a toilet, they had two.
He headed upstairs as he needed a bathtub or shower next. He chose the sink instead.
Just as the family was coming back in and Dexter could hear someone coming up the stairs he swiped his last item for the night. He was going for the bathtub but in his haste he grabbed the other toilet instead, leaving the family with no toilets and him with two.
He still wasn't tired and needed a few more items that night, so he headed back outside and checked through his neighbors trash can. While he was out there he notice the family head inside and leave the baby outside on the ground. Dexter felt sorry for the screaming infant, but couldn't do anything about it.
Awhile later Dexter notice his gracious host come out and pick up the baby. He held him for a minute and then put him down walking back inside. Dexter left a little before dawn and the baby still lay outside in the damp swamp, cold, hungry and alone.
