Chapter Five - Enough For A Shack

After Dexter broke the shower he looked around the firehouse and saw they were out on a call. He decided to take this opportunity to gather up a few more items for his house. Luck was in his favor tonight as he saw two vehicles he could swipe. He really needed to sell all these soon before he was caught.

He looked around and across the street he saw another vehicle just waiting for him to grab. He headed over there but was sidetracked by some really cute balloons he thought would go nicely with his decor. He also figured two cars was enough of a hassle to try to hide for the night, adding a third might be pushing it.

It took him half the night to stash the new cars. He had to drive out to the abandoned area where he was stashing the stolen cars, walk back to the firehouse and the drive back out there to take the other one. By the time he got done and back to the firehouse the firefighters were back and had already noticed the vehicles missing. Dexter stayed in the shadows not wanting to be seen to bring attention to himself. He still didn't want to go back to his lot empty handed, and he didn't really count the balloons as a good nights finds. Instead he decided to see what the firefighters had thrown out this week in the dumpster. He was surprised to find an old couch, a chair and a couple other items he could use. The worse part of his night was when a disgusting fly flew into his mouth. Dexter hated dumpster diving and living like this, but he knew it was the only way to find what he needed.

After hours in the dumpster and hearing the sirens of the fire trucks again turn on, Dexter knew the firehouse would be empty again so he could clean up. He needed to figure out how to make money on those stolen cars today and he didn't want to look or smell any worse than he did normally when trying to sell them. He headed back into the firehouse being quiet and careful just in case someone was left behind. He didn't see anyone or hear anything coming from any of the room as he headed back up to the third story to take a shower. He was glad he didn't break this shower after he used it this time.

He was exhausted after his nights work, and since the firehouse was still empty decide to try and get in a little nap before he was shoo'ed away. He slept hard and when he awoke he was well rested and famished!

He didn't want to waste food as he knew what it was like to be hungry and people around him just throwing away good food that someone could eat. There was a little left over on his plate from earlier and so he decided to finish it off, it was enough to fill him up till his next meal.

Well rested, full and ready for the day, Dexter headed out to figure out what to do with the cars. He walked the long way to the abandoned lot and looked the vehicles. He had swiped a bit of paper and a pen from the firehouse, and so he wrote down the make and model of each car. He had no idea of the years, but decided if someone was crooked enough to buy them, they wouldn't care what the years were. Next he started the long walk into the city, he had seen a sign not far from the abandoned lot that said 'Bridgeport 40 miles'. He wasn't looking forward to heading back into the city he'd hated so much, but he knew it was full of chop shops and people that would buy the cars with no questions asked.

Hours later he arrived in the bustling city. He knew where most of the shops were and headed to the one closest to him. Arriving he saw a man working on tearing a car apart and a few others moving cars around the lot. He walked up to the one working under the hood and cleared his throat. He guy looked up glaring at Dexter. He looked him up and down and turned his nose up at him, then turned back to the car and started working on it again. Dexter knew the reactions of most people when they saw him, so this rude behavior didn't bother him. He cleared his throat again and asked the guy where he could find the person in charge. The guy looked up again and snorted and pointed to a little at the back of the garage. Dexter walked back there and knocked on the door. Hearing a "Enter!" Dexter opened the door and introduced himself, of coarse only giving a fake name. He started to tell the guy he needed to sell some stolen vehicles but remembered he needed to word things correctly for these guys to buy anything. He told the boss that he had acquired a few vehicles and wanted to get rid of them as soon as possible. He gave the list to the guy and waited. The man didn't seemed phased at all, he went over to his computer, punched on the keys a little bit and then looked back at Dexter and offered him $5000 for the whole lot. Dexter, ecstatic that it was this easy, accepted the offer. The guy then got up, yelled for a couple of his men and told Dexter that he would give him the money once they looked at the cars in person.

The next several hours the guys worked on getting the cars back to the shop without being noticed. Dexter rode along the first time to show them where he stored them and to make sure he wasn't going to get ripped off by the men. They moved the cars back to the shop easily enough, having more than just one man to do the work. Once back at the shop, the men looked the cars over. Satisfied with the price he had quoted Dexter, the owner of the shop handed Dexter $5000 dollars. He also told Dexter if he acquired any more cars to let him know and he's keep paying him a nice sum for them.

With the money stashed in various places in his clothing, Dexter paid for a cab and headed back to Twinbrooks. He had enough now to build himself a small shack. It was perfect timing, as summer was coming to an end soon and he'd need some kind of shelter soon as get out of the elements.

The next day Dexter got to work. He went to the lumber yard and bought some wood and beams. He then bought a couple cheap windows and a door. He worked day and night building his little shack. He had to buy a few items he couldn't steal, a bed, a counter and a fridge. He decorated the rest with what he had stolen or found. He had to cover some of the swamp land with dirt in order to build the shack properly, he then dug himself a new fishing hole a little off to the side of his home. By the time he was done, he was happy with his work, it wasn't much, but it was his. He still had a little money left over, enough to bury and start saving so he could build something bigger as time went by.

He even found a spot for his balloons he had stolen. All in all, he was pretty happy with his new home, and it was all his.

*Note* I must not of wrote down exactly what he got for all the cars, but it was close to $5000 so I just used that number. You cannot steal large appliances or objects like a fridge, bed, counter ect. so those he had to buy.

Also I totally spaced that I said he had to become a millionaire when I was starting this, and not $100,000 which would be easier to steal one good car and almost make it to. Stealing even the most expensive cars is only $100,000 and something each, which are the future cars. The ones that are not in the future I think the most expensive one is around $90,000 or something. I don't see a lot of them around and they probably won't start popping up left and right. So for now I have decide if he steals a car it is okay and I won't put a limit on it. He stole I believe 4 or 5 cars and only got about the $5000 for them all, so as long as it keeps going like that, I'll keep doing it like I am. A million is a long ways away!*
